Light and its subtle nature is the essence of
everything visual.

Regarding
his own work:
I had an opportunity to hear Ernst Hass, a world
renowned photographer, speak about his work. "The
painter begins with a blank canvas and adds his image to
the surface," said Hass. "A photographer
on the other hand, begins with a full canvas and has to
confine what he wants the viewer to take notice
of." I also feel this selective process
enables the photographer to control the viewpoint by
holding back information; enhancing the mystery of the
image. It captivates the observer while at the
same time transporting them elsewhere.
My artistic work manipulates the intricacies of light to
create an image and tell a story. My personal
vision is to record history. I enjoy taking
architectural portraits of historic and weathered
structures. Our cityscapes contain an amazing
collection of relics, history, and pride. Too
often we regret the loss of a structure. They can
not be replaced. Greed and selfishness has ravaged
much of our country's architectural history. My
work hopes to preserve as much as possible. - J.D.
