  J.D. Merryweather

A native of Akron, Ohio, J.D. Merryweather has become a fixture in Oklahoma City’s business and art community.  Since moving to Oklahoma in 1994, he has experienced great growth and success.  He has received multiple awards from the advertising and architectural industries.

Based in Oklahoma City, Merryweather travels for numerous clients throughout the U.S. and Europe.  He has worked recently in New York City with some of the most revered super stars of the modern design world.  His work has appeared in over 125 major publications including Architectural Record, Esquire, Interior Design, Metropolitan Home, House Beautiful, The New York Times, The London Financial Times and German GQ.  Merryweather also works locally with the state’s award winning magazine, Oklahoma Today, where he is a contributing editor and his work is often spotlighted on the cover.

Merryweather’s initial life plans began with a major of civil engineering and Russian studies which was soon squelched when a passion for photography took over during his freshman year. J.D. then attended Brooks Institute of Photographic Arts, Science, and Business in Santa Barbara, California.  Eighteen months later, after acquiring an intense technical platform and confidence to construct thoughtful images, he packed for a six month journey to Indonesia.  Participating in a semester abroad program, he had the opportunity to work as an intern with The Bali Post and document much of the island.

In 1988, after graduating from Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri with a degree in media communications, he moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico to cultivate a career in commercial photography.  For fifteen years he has worked and studied in the field.  His business specializes in architectural and corporate photography.  He is a member of the American Society of Media Photographers(ASMP), Architectural Photographers Specialty Group of ASMP, Editorial Photographers and he is an affiliate member of the Central Oklahoma chapter of American Institute of Architects.
